Three Generations of Arboriculture

Tree work has been part of the Thorman family for three generations.

Growing up surrounded by forestry and arboriculture, I learned from an early age that good tree work is built on knowledge, professionalism and respect for the trees themselves.

Continuing a Legacy

My father, David H. Thorman, was widely respected within the arboricultural profession.

Alongside running his own successful tree surgery business, he contributed to the development of professional arboriculture in the UK. He co-authored the Arboricultural Association publication A Guide to Tree Pruning, helped develop the original NPTC competence assessments for arborists, and worked closely with many of the leading figures in the industry.

Among those was Dr Alex Shigo, whose pioneering research transformed modern tree biology and pruning. David organised seminars in North Wales that brought Dr Shigo's work directly to British arborists, helping introduce many of the principles that are now considered standard practice.

Thorman Trees Today

Today's Thorman Trees builds on that heritage while embracing modern working methods.

Our investment in specialist machinery—including crane-assisted tree work, MEWP access and forestry mulching—allows us to undertake projects safely and efficiently across Anglesey, Gwynedd and North Wales.
